Camping, spending a night under the stars in nature is a sweet dream when you look from a distance, but does it continue when it comes into reality? This is exactly why I prepared an article for those who have never camped, which includes both the experience of those who did it and what should be known in general. It is important for every type of travel to set out with a good plan, a real expectation and the right items so that it does not return to the state of dreams & realities; maybe a little more for camping.
So what are the things that the first campers should pay attention to?
Backpack: A 40-50 liter average backpack with lumbar support is your first need to carry your belongings together.
Tent:When it comes to camping, the first thing that comes to mind is the tent. Make sure you have a tent that is suitable for the season you are camping with and is water and sun proof. If you are going to buy it for the first time and want to use it for a long time – which season you will mostly camp – it is better to choose something accordingly. It should be noted that tents for 2 people are actually comfortable for 1 person. So if you are going to buy a tent for 2 people, you need to look for 4 people.
Mat: You will need a mat both when sleeping in a tent and sitting normally. Do not say I do not buy it, others will be easier after a comfortable first experience. The inflatable mattress is one of the necessary items.
Sleeping bag:Although it is not essential in the summer, it is a good idea to choose one of the overalls up to -20 degrees in order to sleep well and well in the remaining seasons. For the summer months, overalls suitable for 10 degrees will work for you most of the time.
Pillow:If you say I make pillows from my clothes or sleep without using a pillow anyway, it is okay, but it can still make you more comfortable to take with you from inflatable pillows that do not take much space.
Knife: A multi-purpose cutting tool like pocket knife will often do the job.
Thermos:Regardless of whether it is short or long term, you need to have water and thermos with you. If the area you are going to camp is not an organized area, it is always good to have enough water for your need and a thermos that keeps the water warm for long periods of time if necessary.
Lamp:This camp also has a night and if you are in nature, the moon may not always be enough. Have both the hand lamp and the head lamp with you. You can get it from hand lamps that can be charged with solar energy.
Apart from these, you can always take a look at the checklist below and take them with you, whichever is necessary for your camp at that time. list from here You can download.
Suggestions for the First Camp
1. Go Near
Spontaneous departure is good, but it is your responsibility and it is important to be planned while you are in nature. Choose your first camp site close to where you live. It would be much better if you have a second place nearby. In fact, it is a camp site that is the most recommended business, it is close to the residential area and camping with someone who has previous camp experience, if any.
2. Don’t be afraid!
If you really want to do this, first put your worries in front of you and think. It is important that you think at least before you go and be prepared because you will be greeted with things like night, insects, animal sounds that you will hear in the morning, wind … etc. Therefore, it will make you feel more comfortable by planning. You can also have your first experience by participating in mass camp activities.
3. Investigate Camp Site
Even if you are planning to meet the nature and find peace in your first camp, choosing a little crowded area may still be important in order to spend the night easily. If you are not going to choose an organized campsite, you can choose the popular forests and lakeside. Is there a toilet, is there a telephone, is there electricity, will there be a source of water nearby … these are the things you want to pay attention to.
4. Choose a Beautiful Weather
Another of the most important things to look at before going to the camp is of course the weather. If possible, make your first camp in spring and summer. Rather than camping in cold weather, you can enjoy more by camping in fine weather.
5. Go Out With The Right Equipment
First of all, you want it, but if you are one of those who give up camping because you have enough materials or even nothing, your first thing to change is your thoughts. You can have your first camping experience by borrowing, do not put thoughtful obstacles to yourself and determine what you need at that moment.
Camping in the summer is easier due to the weather, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to take protective and warm items with you. Regardless of the season, things like fleece, cover, cardigan are always with you. If it is a sunny day, let your tent be suitable for it so that it is not too hot inside.
It is important to choose things that dry quickly in terms of clothing, and the style you can revise. Because they will get dirty, maybe they will get very dirty. At least you might want to think about it.
There is also this: It is also important not to take items with you as if you are moving with the right equipment. Of course, if you are going by car, a few pieces of extra items may make you feel safer, even if you are not going to use it, but if you are going to hitch or use public transportation, a heavy bag will not make you happy.
Go to the supermarket by making a shopping list and take it with you according to what and how much you need during your stay. Especially water and dry food should always be with you. Don’t forget to take energizing things with you and eat them. The marshmallow, which is identified with the camping scenes of American movies, may be one of the things you want to add to your shopping list. Of course also a garbage bag!
7. Tent Area Selection
It is important to carefully select the place where you will set up your tent and install it in the daylight as much as possible. You can choose a shaded area according to the angle of the sun or take an umbrella with you. If you are camping in cold weather, choose places that will not be affected by the wind as much as possible.
When you choose the area, clean the place where you want to set up the tent from things like stones, wood pieces, so that it does not damage your tent and you can easily position it. When collecting your tent, do not forget to lay linoleum under it, as it will be easy and clean and will add value to the life of the tent. If you set up your tent under fruit trees, you may need to consider getting your tent dirty, and if you set it under trees at a snowy time, you may have to stay under the snow. If there is wind, you need to fix your tent, so one of the things you should have with you might be a hammer because there is not always a hard object around.
8. Get Your Car Serviced
If you are going to camp by car, it is important to have the right car and a car that is maintained regularly. It would not be nice if your vehicle leaves you on the way to a camp site that is reached by dirt roads. Or if you go to a place with roads that are not suitable for your vehicle, your camping adventure may end before it starts. If we consider the worse scenario, the roads that you pass in some way turn to mud with the effect of rain; it may also become impassable on the return road. Of course, none of them but all of them are possible. That is why it is important to look at the weather frequently and choose a camp site, even if you drive with a car.
9. Toilet Subject
If there is a toilet where you go, is it ok or not? Even if you are one of those who can easily leave it to nature, but if you are not, it is important that you take it with you. Take a look at the portable toilets now, as this may not be as easy as you think. Stools can also be turned into a toilet easily, but before you go, consider this issue for sure.
10. Keep Your Tent Closed
Keep your tent’s zipper always closed. Let there be an obstacle, at least in the entrance, from all kinds of tiny insects, poultry to other animals. If you have insect phobia, especially if you keep it closed both inside and outside, nothing will get inside. Of course, you can also spray around your tent with some pesticides, it works.
11. Be Careful When Burning Campfire
First, collect dry wood from around, never cut wet trees. Even as I wrote on the camp list, you can take things like kindling and wood with you, maybe it will not be possible to find around. Be careful to light fire in the areas where fire has been burned before. Do not light fire near the tree in areas with plants. After making sure that it is safe and safe in windy times, you can burn the area where you will burn a fire by placing it in a circle of stones.
12. Leave Your Camping Area Clean
Not everyone is like you, so make sure you leave the area where you camped cleaner. That’s why the garbage bag is one of the most important things to remember. You can leave your litter away from your tent and use it as a warning against animals. If you distribute it again, you can collect it 🙂
In the meantime, you can hang your food on the trees with the help of a bag while sleeping.
13. Enjoy Your Taste
Everything doesn’t have to be quadruple, whatever you experience will be the experience for new ones. Enjoy the environment you are in as much as possible and see sharing.
